Dave attended an "alternative" high school untill the age of 17, when he dropped out to persue his career in comedy writing. He realised later in his life that many of the problems he had at school were actually due to the fact that he is dyslexic.
Dave said he had a cat when he was little named "Duchess" after the cat "Duchess" in the Disney movie "The Aristocats."
His children live in Toronto with their mother, but he spends time with them every chance he gets.
Dave attended "Second City" Improv. classes, where he met Kevin McDonald. (He was 19 at the time.)
